CISL - ISCOS AND ITUC PERC CONFERENCE FOR THE POSITION OF WOMEN

"Strengthening the capacities of working women and networking in the Western Balkans" is the title of the Regional Conference, organized by the Trade Union Institute for Cooperation and Development ISCOS CISL, Italy and ITUC PERC, held in Skopje today.
The conference, supported by the European Commission, is gathering representatives of women sections of trade unions of Macedonia, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bosnia and Herzegovina - Republika Srpska, Montenegro and Kosovo.
Guests were welcomed by the President of CCM Zivko Mitrevski, UNASM President Slobodan Antovski and Enisa Selimovic, head of ITUC PERC Sarajevo.
Before the transition there were no major issues of gender equality in Macedonia, but the transformation, privatization and the creation of the private sector is changing the position of women. Gender inequality is an issue which again came out on stage and that is why unions have to redefine the problems of this nature and to fit them in our agendas - said Zivko Mitrevski in his introductory speech.
Enisa Salimovic said unions must cooperate with each other because otherwise they will not be able to resist changes set by capital and governments.
The three main objectives of the conference is training of the participants, planning and launching national campaigns and networking of women's sections of trade unions in the region.
