Today the President of the Federation of Trade Unions of Macedonia Zivko Mitrevski, the General Secretary of the Council of CCM Andjelko Angjelkovski, as well as the President of SGIP Pavel Trendafilov officially submitted to the Parliament proposals and positions of CCM Presidency on the Draft Law Amending the Law on Employment and Insurance in Case of unemployment.

There are 4 proposed substantive changes in the existing Draft Law. CCM requires more liberal and less restrictive approach to the right to compensation and considers that, according to European standards, older workers should be entitled to special protection.

A key change that the Government and the Ministry of Labour and Social Policy made to the Law is to reduce the period of benefit use from 5 years to 18 months. CCM believes that the Government needs to find mechanisms to prevent abuses, but also to protect persons who are not guilty for remaining jobless. This applies particularly to older workers, who for 5 years will exercise the right to pension. In this regard it is proposed a retention period of five years of compensation.

At the 10th session of the Economic and Social Council, held on November 21, 2011, CCM and KSS said that unions support measures against abuses of the law, but it should not be allowed workers to be damaged that lost the job and truly redundant.

The law regulating redundancy will be voted in the Parliament on January 16th.
