From 23 to 25 May in Ohrid a seminar on "Youth Trade Union Leadership" was held which is the first session of the Academy for young trade union leaders 2014. The Project is being realized by the Foundation "Friedrich Ebert" and is intended for training of young trade unionists from: CCM, KSS, UNASM and SSNM. Participants on the Academy were one representative from each branch trade unions in the Republic of Macedonia.

The purpose of the Academy for young trade union leaders 2014 is the same as the previous two rounds held in 2012 and 2013, i.e. education and building young trade unionists in the same direction of acting proactively in the field of creating critical mass to undertake further strong union steps in the union leadership and labor law issues that are important for unions and social policy in the Republic of Macedonia.

Specifically, the goal is aimed at recruiting and training of young union leaders who will be prepared to deal with challenges of trade union struggle to restore confidence among union members, working alongside the idea of trade union organizing in order to advocate for real improvement and enforcement of labor rights, working conditions of employees; trade union representatives will continue to be able to conduct trade union education and at the same time unions will gain educated and trained unionists who are part of labor movement future.

The Academy lecturers are eminent experts in their fields:

  • PhD Konstantin Petkovski, who presented the essence and meaning of leadership, union organizing and managing, organizing meetings, managing time and human resources and
  • PhD Todor Kalamatiev, who deals with the matter of Labor Law, employment procedure, holidays, leaves, disciplinary liability of employees, safety and health at work, general and special protection of women and other vulnerable groups, employment principles, employment contracts, flexible employment contracts, working hours, wages and compensation for termination of employment.
  • Vlado Karaev from Rubicon, who had its own session, active presentation and training in the area of team building.
